The Soundness of Sleep

This album is very exciting and personal to me. It is the first time I have felt the quality of my song writing has warranted a commercial release and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you. You can download it from iTunes, Amazon and most other online MP3 retailers.

This album is heavily influenced by Philip Glass, Steve Reich and other minimalist composers. Infusing minimalist compositions with pop sensibilities to create something interesting, listenable and uniquely sentimental.

Emotionally, the album deals with issues such as guilt and regret and a release from emotional captivity. As the songs began to take shape I realized that it wasn’t necessary to write lyrics as any vocals would only detract from their emotional impact. This was a freeing decisions that gave me the confidence to write strong instrumental tracks that stand on their own as well as contribute to a larger piece.

1) The Soundness of Sleep
The minimal chord structure of this tracks sets the tone for the album while the pacing provides a bit of whitespace before the album begins proper.

2) Dark bits, slate, fade to concrete
Personally, my favorite track on the album. An epic track that rethinks that advantage of repetitive chord structures and deliberate pacing. I am very proud of how the sugary piano samples mix with the lush, warm synths. Spiky and melodramatic, lonesome and nostalgic, this track has it all.

3) Delicate hands on pants with pleat
A track to bridge the first half of the album to the second and to provide a palate cleanser before the angular, energetic track that follows.

4) Our younger years are made unclean
A raw, emotive track with synths that pop and crackle off the track placed over creaking amplified piano to create a feeling of being lost in your own skin, survival and escape.

This track stands out as it construes the rules set in place by the previous three tracks to provide something bright and clean in an otherwise textured album.

5) While a woman’s desires are rarely seen
An epic track to tie up the album and leave a strong impression while repeating the themes of album in a concise, entertaining way. Regret, guilt and finally a feeling of release. This song really is a journey, with perfect piano samples all wrapped up with sugary strings and calm bright synths to create a warm song unparalleled in my other tracks.
